I am looking at turbine install but none of the machines available get anything near the suppposed power rating stated in the guides. In the UK we are not exactly blessed with year round sunshine so what other options are there? Anyone have first hand knowledge of ground heat sources?

That is one of the main powers with wind turbines. Including vertical axis. However if you are able to power the advances in technology that require lower power consumption, the value starts to rise. Its working on not a single product but the combination of combining wind with the task you need accomplished.

How much average wind is needed before such a turbine can become economical?

Natural Wind power creation is the best one

It makes sense to harness wind power over solar as there is almost always some wind, but everyday there is at least 8 hours without sun.

Nice article but i think solar power is the way to go when it comes to saving money and environmental benefits.

I have the perfect location for a wind turbine. The problem I have is, I am unable to find a battery to store the energy created. I have to put the energy back into the national grid and they give us money. Something I am not keen on.

Wind power is really a great field to invest, specially in the developing countries where there are some problems in power demands fulfilling wind power investment is a safe way to invest and great a good rebound of it!

As wind turbines are very obvious and easily seen in my opinion they are favoured as a very visul demonstration that the government is ‘tackling the issue’ wave generated electricity however is far more effcient, the wave hub off the coast of cornwall is set to develop 34kv and with far fewer moving parts comparative upkeep (per kv) is a fraction of the cost for a wind farm- the only people in oposition are the surfers but being one myself I can honestly say that a fraction smaller wave to preserve the world for future generations is a small price to say.

We run a farm down here in Virginia and we are in the process of adding turbines to our property. I will keep you updated with more info and pictures.

Yeah I do agree with the KBC in this matters, the growing demand of the power can either be fulfilled by atomic power either the wind power, wind power being the best of all. I would like to recommend people to invest in it.

this field really has a lot of potential and it can prove to be a heaven for the investors once they start investing in it!

Interesting to hear someone picking wind over solar – at least they went for something renewable!
